February in Síolta Beaga

Over the past few months we have been very busy learning all about China. We made maps of China, Chinese flags, masks and our very own dragons. We discovered that 2020 is the year of the rat and celebrated Chinese New Year with a little party in class. We especially enjoyed learning about the Great Wall of China and the Terracotta Army. We made and painted our own terracotta warriors. We have gotten very good at using chopsticks and even earned our chopstick licences! We sampled lots of different types of rice and tasted fortune cookies too. We also tried on traditional Chinese hats and got to learn a special song in Mandarin. We really loved learning about pandas. After spending weeks rehearsing, we worked together to give a presentation on China to children from other classes. We had never given a presentation before and so we were very proud of our achievement!

We also loved going to Irish Dancing lessons with Lucy every Tuesday over the past few months and couldn’t wait to see who our partners would be each week. We celebrated Shrove Tuesday by making delicious pancakes in class too.
