Sports

Bunscoil Mhuire has always had an interest in encouraging sport, health and well-being in our students.  This year we will be making use of the Fundamental Movements Programme in our PE lessons where we are going back to basics and concentrating on developing locomotor, stability and manipulative skills that children need to participate in all sports. Check out the Physical Literacy section of scoilnet.ie for more information.

Throughout the year children particularly in the Senior end of the school get the opportunity to partake in many activities and sporting events. Gaelic football, hurling, camogie, athletics, basketball, Irish dancing and Sports Day to name but a few.

Sciath na Scól

Bunscoil boys and girls have already started training since the first full week back at school. Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Classes have been training diligently after school on Mondays in the GAA. They have 2 games under their belt now. The first against Gaelscoil na Dúglaise was a tough start to the campaign with two losses. The next game at home to Upper Glanmire was a tighter affair for the boys who were on the wrong side of the result but our girl’s team emerged victorious with a superb, comprehensive victory.

Athletics

Every year we enter the cross – country races in an East Cork venue. June always heralds the excitement of the Cork City Sports.

This year the cross country is to take place in the local Fr O’Neill’s GAA. Our budding athletes are looking forward to a fantastic day of running.
