Síolta Beaga D Ms. Ward’s class really enjoyed experimenting and investigating during Science Week. They carried out the following experiments:
1. Skittles Rainbow – Warm water was poured over the skittles. The coloured coating dissolved into the water and then diffused through it, turning the water into the colour of the sweets.
2. Magic Milk – Different food colourings were dropped into a plate of milk. The children dipped their cotton swabs into washing up liquid and then into the milk, making beautiful swirling colourful patterns.
3. Rain Cloud in a Jar using shaving cream to represent the cloud, water to represent the air and blue food colouring to represent rain drops.
4. Dancing Raisins using raisins and 7up. When the raisins are dropped into 7up, the combination of raisins and the carbon dioxide gas is less dense than the raisin alone, so the raisins lift to the surface and appear to dance.
